Wisconsin Winter War at TundraCon results

It seems I've been rather lax in my blogging as of late. It's been two weeks since we ran the Wisconsin Winter War at Tundra Con with our friends from Adventure Games in Oshkosh, and I've still not managed to post a thing. Shame on me! Well, I suppose it's better late than never, so here goes.

We all got up nice and early, well maybe not 'nice' but definitely early. I'm not entirely sure why, but I snapped a picture of the clock on the stove on my way out the door. Everyone got together at Lee's place, where we piled all of the club's terrain collection, a few boards, a bunch of models, and a couple of sleepy gamers into two cars to begin the 2 and a half hour drive from Kenosha to Appleton.
The fellas at the American Legion really now how to decorate. Do you figure I can talk the wife into swapping one of our garden gnomes for one of these garden tanks?

Registration and sign in at the con was a breeze. Then everyone sat down to go over lists and make last minute preperations while I set up tables, both prize and game, with some help from the Fox Valley Gaming Club, Adventure Games, and Paul (one of the players) who were all kind enough to bring along a table or two of terrain to help out.

Prizes!
Look at that prize table! With some help from our friends at Adventure Games and Battlefront we were able to put together quite the hoard. In fact we were able to guarantee that every single single player in the Wisconsin Winter War tournament left with not one, but two prizes! We even had a super slick plaque for our tournament winner donated by Lee at Troll Works!
A nice plaque for our champion. Lee at Troll Works knocked this out for us in no time flat with very little heads up (shame on me). Take a look at the Troll Works facebook page linked above for your own custom trophy, token, or terrain needs.\
So with everything set up, we played our three rounds of Flames of War, had a great lunch right there at the American Legion, a couple of beers, and made a couple of new friends. Here's a few pictures of tables and games.

Even though everyone was going home with an armful of prizes, we still had to have winners and losers. After all 3 round were up the results looked like this:

Lee Shaver American
Nick Angelici British
Erik Puckett German
Steven Diehn American
Clayton Alaniz German
Paul Alaniz American
Chuck Hiner Soviet
Tom Gall German
Ryan Pecore German
Ken Horton Hungarian
Dennis Volpe German
Bryan Santkuyl American
Michael Matthews Italian

The Best Painted award went to Chuck Hiner's Soviets. I have to apologize here, because while I don't have a picture of his army... I do have a picture of a particularly catastrophic set of dice he rolled. ( No seriously Chuck, I'm sorry. Shoot me an email with a picture of those pretty Soviets and I'll put it up here.)

Tom's Stukas come screaming out of the sky looking to turn Chuck's Katyushas into smoldering wrecks, but fear not, our fearless comrades and their AA guns will make short work of the fascist vipers as soon as we roll these 12 dice looking for 4+'s.... well shoot...

We'd planned on giving away a 'Best Sport' award as well, but believe it or not, every single player in the tournament scored a perfect 15 of 15 when it came to sportmanship. (To be honest, I'm not entirely sure I believe it, I've played some of these guys before....)

... and on the way home... PIZZA AND ICE CREAM!

  4. Glad to hear it Tom. We'll be putting another little shindig together for Teddy at Adventure Games at the back end of February. We'd love to see you there.
